ShadowBox teamed with California POST again last week to take part in the annual Urban Shield event hosted in the Bay Area. Emergency response teams (SWAT, Fire, EOD, EMS) from northern California and across the United States participated in the continuous 48-hour simulation training exercise. Last April, ShadowBox, California POST and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office collaborated to develop two Urban Shield tactical scenarios for rapid response teams. This past week, we had the opportunity to see these scenarios come to life as we observed and interviewed teams about their communication, tactics, and decision-making. These findings will support the development of effective first responder training so officers can better manage critical incidents and overcome cognitive barriers.
